Ringing in NYE 2015 at Home!

I have been a bit quiet around here this past week, since taking some time off before Christmas, I have really truly just been relaxing! Mr. Beau and I stayed in London for Christmas. My in laws visited and we ate a lot, went to Westminster Abbey for Christmas Eve service, drank lots of yummy champagne, did some shopping, went to see the Nutcracker, took a long walk, all in all, it was a nice Christmas. I missed my family in the States a lot, but the thought of not having to deal with Christmas travel was quite nice. Now that Christmas has flashed by, it is time to ring in the New Year ahead of and with some style! With such a fun filled busy year behind us, I think we may be celebrating at home with lots of bubbly and confetti at our own place. A few weeks ago I put together a few ideas on entertaining at home and added in lots of sparkle from West Elm and styled it with lots of glitter from me.
Just because you are hosting a small at home party, does NOT mean your guests should not dress in sparkles and dance the night away! Jennifer with Jennifers Paper made me the pretty NYE invites to make the small get together a bit more formal and get guests excited.
I put together little bags for guests to bring home that included: homemade espresso doughnuts, chocolate champagne bottles, notepads to write down your dreams & wishes for 2016 and of course sparkly noisemakers for the bash!

Happy Hour : Winter Spice Fizz

What a week I have had! I can tell you now, I can't wait to have a cocktail and celebrate the Christmas season! With a HUGE event behind me and lots of work going on with Glimmer & Threads  I am so ready for a break today and to take in the holidays!!! A couple of weeks ago I made some homemade citrus mulling syrup and created a cocktail with it. It is such an easy recipe, its tasty and it makes your home smell delicious! The beautiful Maxeen Kim was there to capture the pictures with yummy gingerbread cookies mixed into the afternoon. Find the recipe below. I hope that you find a little time over the next few days to make yourself a cocktail and toast the holiday season.
Citrus Mulling Syrup

250g of granulated sugar
2 oranges halved
6 whole cloves
6 whole allspice
2 cinnamon sticks
1/4 nutmeg grated
fresh ginger sliced
water

1. Put all of the ingredients in a saucepan with 1 Litre of water and bring slowly to a simmer.
2. Make sure all ingredients have completely dissolved, allowing it to boil and turn down the heat.
3. Allow to simmer for latest 20 minutes, longer to keep a delicious smell in your kitchen!
4. Remove from heat to cool. Once cooled completed put it through a very fine sieve.
5. Add a tablespoon of syrup, top with champagne and garnish with a sliced apple.

I think the mulling syrup also works as a great gift for a host. Bottle some syrup up and add the bottle with a bottle of champagne and tie a little recipe around the bag, voila.

Cheers! Merry Christmas! xoxo - Rebecca

A Sparkly Girlfriends Christmas Brunch

A few months ago West Elm asked me if I wanted to style some items for the Christmas season, well, what do you think I said....absolutely! West Elm has LONG been one of my favorite home decor stores. When I received an email from them I thought, who me? Really, of course I will style your products, of course! So with Christmas around the corner, and a reason to invite girlfriends over for a festive sparkly brunch, I sprinkled in West Elm products alongside glittery sequins and pink flowers. Today I am sharing with you the over all sparkling details and I will also be posting detailed recipes as the week goes on. I hope that this excites some inspiration for you when thinking of what to do with your friends during the Christmas season! Get dressed up and host a brunch of course! The talented Sanshine Photography stopped by to capture all of the images and with sunshine coming through the window, was able to get some stunning photos for the day! Enjoy the photos.
For a vase on the table I used one of West Elm's porcelain hurricane's. Buy the largest size hurricane and place a smaller vase inside the hurricane, to create an easier way to arrange your flowers. I also added a few platinum rim stemless wine glasses for some smaller bud vases around my flat. I have always believed in using what you have at your hose. Small glasses, jam jars, old bottles, they all make wonderful flower vases! Mixed in with the table linen from Glimmer & Threads and mercury votives, I think the table looked beautiful, pink and festive for the holiday season.
Even #siroliver added his fanciest of season attire on.......a stripey bow tie, he is just too cute.

Below are a few little suggestions on hosting your girlfriends for a festive brunch:

Send out an invitation!: It is a crazy time of the year where things do not seem to slow down, but there is nothing like a small get together of your favorite ladies on a winter day to catch up and laugh with. Jennifer's Paper created my beautiful stationery items, including the invitation. Who doesn't like to receive an invite in the mail!
Create a drinks station: I chose to create three pre made cocktails where all my guests had to do was add champagne, easy and delicious. The syrups and cocktails may require you a bit more work to make ahead of time, but on the day, it will not take long to set up and will be a nice option for your guests.

Planning your Christmas Season

YAY! It is Christmas time! I absolutely LOVE this time of year! Christmas songs have been blaring on our speakers all weekend, I am writing a huge list of ingredients for Christmas cookies to bake  and the flat is decorated with lots and lots of Christmas sparkle {haha, because of this photoshoot it has partially been up since October! Weird blog photoshoot world!} That being said, with so many get togethers and activities during the season, not to count that I have one of the biggest high profile events I have had coming up mid way through the Christmas season, it is fun, but also a little stressful. Mr. Beau has made me promise to take care of myself and schedule "me time" during the season. It may sound silly, but it is so important. Sometimes you can get so caught up in saying YES to get togethers, shopping, entertaining etc. the fun becomes stressful. This Christmas I decided to make myself a plan for the month ahead to keep myself sane and enjoy it. Here are a few tips....

1. Sweat! - At the beginning of each week I have sat down Sunday night and scheduled in and signed up for my gym classes. I am still LOVING my Class Pass membership and it is great because so many options are available for me to get in a good workout at any time I can manage to squeeze in. Some of my favorite classes recently are: 1Rebel Reshape | Ten Pilates Beginners Reformer | David Lloyd Orange Theory   | Swift Fitness Bootcamp in Highbury Fields. Exercise, it is important and makes me feel way less stressed and better!

2. Rest! - This weekend some of our plans were canceled and that was ABSOLUTELY fine with me. We slept in a bit, read a new silly book in bed with a mug of coffee, went to the flower market, watched Netflix wrapped in my new West Elm Faux Fur Throw and Yawn Sleep Socks , all while relaxing a bit. It was nice to really unwind during such a full on week.

Working Women : Charlotte Mills

I love starting my week with a bit of inspiration! Over the past couple of years I have shared some amazing and inspiring women here on the blog in the series of Working Women. I find myself learning so much from women's personal stories of how they started their business, the least favorite part of running their business to their favorite bloggers and instagrammers they like to follow! Today I am excited to be featuring the lovely Charlotte with Charlotte Mills Bridal Shoes. I discovered Charlotte's gorgeous line of shoes soon after my wedding day and was lucky enough to feature them in a shoot I styled   last year. Charlotte's shoes are playful and fun and also gorgeous and beautiful. Keep on reading to hear how Charlotte started her shoe line to what is on the horizon. And if you are looking for a pair of shoes for you big day or maybe even a night out, make sure to head over to the site

When did you start your business?

I started in September 2013 and Launched the first collection in April 2014
{image by: Jonny Draper Link}

How did you get started with opening an online shop?

My friend had worked on website builds and had lots of great contacts, firstly I came up with some initial ideas and then passed these over to my amazing developer. We are constantly changing the site. Its such a vital part of the business, every few months we have meetings where we go through the site and look at ways we can improve it. A lot of work also goes on behind the scenes to make the site work for the business side of things.

What advice do you have for younger women looking to start their own business?

Do it, follow your heart! But to succeed its hard work, you need to be prepared to give it your everything. It’s the best decision I ever made and I'm doing what I truly love everyday. No more Sunday night dread, it is exciting going in to work on a Monday morning.
Also there is so much help out there, don’t be afraid to ask. My local council and the goverments start up loan initiatives have been a great support.

Party Loves : Gold Leaf

Recently I have discovered that there are a lot of little party items that I absolutely love, can not have enough of and people ask me often, where did you get it? Little things like a certain cocktail napkin, striped straws, flower vases, etc. I thought I would start a new blog series on Party Loves, featuring little things I love to add when entertaining that make an event just a bit more special and sparkly when not sucking your bank account dry! First up, gold leaf!
 {taken on my phone via my Instagram account}

Adding Gold Leaf to a drink, some desserts or even a cheese plate makes it look fancy fancy! A small little envelope of Cake Professional Finest Gold Leaf goes a long way as well. Make sure to use tweezers when applying the gold leaf, otherwise it tends to stick together if you just use your fingers. A small envelope is about £5 and will make your drinks look like £50 ;)

Simple Soiree : Friendsgiving Pot Luck

I truly can not believe this will be the fourth year we are celebrating Thanksgiving here in London. Our first year in London we went out to eat with a group of friends and for the past two years have hosted a Friendsgiving party at our flat on Saturday evening. For most Americans living abroad, we do not get the day off at work. Thanksgiving here is known and some restaurants serve a special feast on Thursday. This year however, with such a busy year and a lot of recent projects, we have decided to pair it down a bit on one of my favorite holidays. That being said, I thought to myself, what about the idea of a simple Friendsgiving soiree pot luck dinner. A day where everyone signs up to bring something, simple non floral centerpieces, a festive punch, I think it sounds like a
wonderful reason to get friends together, American or not!

1. What to DECORATE with : Buy some simple small pumpkins or even fruit {apples, pears, squash} and spray paint it in metallic colors. Lay the finished products on some Kraft paper instead of a fancy table cloths and mix in some inexpsenive table lights. Voila! Fancy, pretty, simple table decor. Montana Gold Spray Paint  Table Fairy Lights Kraft paper table roll

2. What to SERVE: Have everyone sign up to bring a dish. Instead of going through the hassle of cooking a turkey {let alone the COST of a British Turkey, not cheap! Why are turkey's here so much more expensive!}, make this recipe of Turkey Thanksgiving Day Meatballs! We visited this restaurant when we were in NYC and it was AMAZING. This is what I am making Mr. Beau and I on Thursday. Order a pie from your local bakery, make some pre portioned stuffing muffins and don not forget to make something easy to drink like a big bowl of Autumn sangria!  Gobble Gobble Turkey Meatballs    Apple Sangria Cornbread Stuffing Muffins Hummingbird Bakery Pumpkin Pie Beaujolais Nouveau

3. Forget the CHINA: Yes, I know, this is me, Mrs. Entertaining lover, but honestly, I am saying it, use paper! You will thank me. It will be easier and now a days there are SO many cute options! Buy some gold paper plates and while I love a glass, why not get these cute paper cups and write everyones names on them. Paper Mash Gold Scallop Cup

4. Wrap up the LEFTOVERS: Write guests a thank you note and tuck it into a little box full of leftovers so that they can have it at their home. A personal little note goes such a long way! Peach Blossom Kraft Brown Food Box & Washi Tape & Wooden CutleryQuill London Thank You Tape Quill London Thank You Card Set Sugar Paper LA

If you are an American living in London, it isn't too late to get some Thanksgiving goodies. Ocado still has plenty of Pumpkin Pie Puree ! Even though you may miss your family that are miles away, be thankful for the wonderful friends you have nearby. Happy Friendsgiving!

xoxo Rebecca

Running a Marathon

You may have seen over on Instagram recently, but incase you missed it, I've been training for the NYC Marathon this past summer and completed the big race two weeks ago. Yep, you read correctly, the NYC marathon, 26.2 miles, it was a long Sunday morning jog! Over the past 13 years I have now completed five marathons, not going to lie, I'm pretty proud to say that. I have to be honest though, I think five is good for me, I think I'm done....for now. This race was a very different experience since my last marathon over five years ago. Mr. Beau and I trained together and with such busy schedules recently, this run was a HUGE commitment of our lives. If you are currently thinking of running a 5k, 10k or a big old 26.2 miles, I thought I would share a few of my thoughts "words of wisdom" on my marathon training tips. For those of you who think I am crazy, well, I'll be posting more entertaining ideas soon;)
{morning of the race, my gear. Sparkly Soul headband and all! very on brand for Glimmer & Threads!}

Style On The Big Day: Charlotte Mills Bridal

You are talking to a lady who loves a nice pair of shoes. I mean, I actually wrote a blog post during my 30th birthday all about my birthday present to myself, shoes. So when it came to my wedding day, I knew I wanted some fun shoes, something with a bow and well something pink and different. I had a shoe in mind that was something very similar to the lovely designer that I am introducing you to today, Charlotte Mills Bridal Shoes. I would have LOVED to have worn her beautiful shoes on my big day and am so excited to share her collection with you today. A UK based designer, Charlotte's shoes are gorgeous and are certainly a stylish keepsake that will always make you remember your wedding day when you put them on to wear to a party for years to come.

Happy Hour: Champagne Pear Cocktail

I had a really wonderful weekend! A busy weekend, but a weekend full of fun projects and attending a lovely and thoughtful workshop. It was one of those weekends that really got my creative mind going and I loved it. The gorgeous fall weather outside also may have helped make me feel a little pep in my step possibly. It was gorgeous outside in London. The weather has officially changed into autumn, my favorite season! A time full of apples and pears and pumpkins and sweater and all of those lovely things! To celebrate the great few days I've had why not celebrate with a cocktail? Right? How about a delicious Champagne Pear Cocktail
Last week my recipe and collaboration I styled and put together with Maxeen Kim  and Tea America was featured on one of my favorite sites, Style Me Pretty Living. A mix of all lovely fall goodies; pears, figs and a little bit of bubbly. All of these things mixed together and it is a wonderful to reason to celebrate the season ahead.
With so many exciting adventures ahead this season; growing my business, an upcoming lovely collaborated photo shoot, heading to NYC to run marathon #5, the blog awards and so many other bits here and there, I think a Monday afternoon is the perfect time to celebrate happy hour!
Cheers to the season ahead! I hope the chilly fresh air and the colorful leaves get you as excited as it gets me. New ideas get rolling in my mind, new projects get spinning in my head. Cheers to that!

Check out the entire feature with the recipe for the cocktail and delicious naked cakes HERE at Style Me Pretty Living

Something Blue

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. Maybe it is because I am a September baby and I will always love my birthstone the Sapphire. Maybe it is also because I love the celebration of a wedding and the traditional something blue aspect of the day. A few days ago my friend introduced me to this gorgeous engagement ring designer, Bear Brooksbank, and it was her collection of stunning sapphire rings that caught me eye. The idea of having a beautiful sparkly sapphire on your wedding day as your something blue is fabulous. If not a sparkly blue ring, how about some shiny blue nails. I think there is a little way to add that bit of blue splash into your big day whether its your bridesmaids dresses, a bouquet, a cocktail ring or even some fabulous shoes.

Happy Wedding Planning!

xoxo - Rebecca

I Fancy Friday v.50

What a week it has been! I can't NOT believe it is already Friday. WOW! I also can not believe it is my 50th Fancy Friday post. Next weeks post, #51, I will be giving away a few things I fancy. Wow, 50 Fridays of Fancy since I moved to London, wow, very fun.
Last week flew by in front of me with nights of events one after the other. Mr. Beau's birthday was last weekend and then mine was on Wednesday. Mixing in training runs and work, my my my, I have been looking forward to the weekend SO much! A little R&R time, a huge run ahead and lots of planning for a couple of upcoming shoots. Friday, I fancy you! Over the past week there have been quite a few things that I have fancied and I wanted to share. I hope everyone has an AMAZING weekend ahead! I know I am looking forward to a few more hours of sleep.
xoxo Rebecca

1. 25 Fall Bouquets - hello big beautiful bouquet, isn't that gorgeous! It is getting me inspired for a shoot I am planning. I have a thing for BEAUTIFUL big arrangements

2. Quill London paper flower workshop - SO fun that Quill is offering paper flower workshops. Head over to the site, there are a few spots left!

3. Naomi Watts Emmy Dress - absolutely one of my favorite Emmy dresses. She were beautiful Dior and the back with filled with little flowers and...it had pockets!

4. Gold Sequin Apple Ornament  - I have an upcoming project based around Christmas, so my mind has been in Christmas ornament land. I am loving this golden apple, very NYC theme sparkle bauble.

5. Pink Ruffle Shift Dress - What do we think about this cute number? #weddingblogawards material?

6. Yawn Pajamas  - This company is UK based and offers some super sweet pj's. As tired as I am feeling this week, I would love to cuddle up in these chambray pair and lay on the couch for hours.

7. Lauren Conrad Pink Saddlebag - Lauren Conrad is pretty super cute, however, her new line at Kohl's is as well. I heart this bag and may just need to add it to my closet when we visit the States. Pink, a cute handle, a gold lock, its lovely.

8. How to pull off a bright lip - The lipstick Camille has in this post is fab!

9. Green Smoothie Tropical Skin Cleanser & Pumpkin Spice Smoothie - I'm on a smoothie kick and these are two of my favs! Lots of spinach, avocado, a banana, almond milk, throw it all in your blender, its pretty delicious! This site has some amazing recipes so hop on over.

10. Swift Fitness - Looking for a new workout? Don't have a crazy amount of time or want to commit to an expensive gym? I've been heading to Swift Fitness, which for me is lucky because it is seriously outside my flat. There are a few locations in London and in the class in Highbury is amazing. It is always different and you are ALWAYS moving. It is not a bootcamp where you will leave crying after someone screamed at you for hours, but one that is encouraging for all levels and leaves you feeling sore, good sore, when you head home. Try it out. I love it!

Also, a little reminder that I'm giving away 2 tickets to Brides the Show next weekend along with some other sparkly fun. Head over to the link to find details.

xoxo Becca

Sips, Sweets & Birthday Treats

Yesterday I celebrated my 34th birthday. Yes, you read correct, I did not turn 24 I turned 34 ;) I love glitter, pink and lots of macarons and am still a 24 year old at heart! With another year of celebrating ahead of me, I thought it would be a fun time to share some fun images I took with Maxeen Kim and Tea America's sweets. Birthdays bring along lots of sweet indulgence in my book!
These cookies and cocktails make me think of living life to the happiest and fullest. I mean, doesn't a nice iced bottle of classic coca cola and a cookie sandwich make you smile? It does to me! April with Tea America created a chocolate chip cookie sandwich which was DELICIOUS! I combined a classic  Coke float with a little bit of vanilla vodka and homemade strawberry syrup for a delicious dessert cocktail. Together both are a birthday celebration for sure!
Last year I made a lot of resolutions on my birthday, maybe a few too many, however a lot of them I was able to reach. I started my own business Glimmer & Threads, Mr. Beau and I went on some adventures and I've tried to say no more to make room for the YES things I want in my life. This year ahead brings a lot of exciting things in my life but also ones that get me a bit stressed, OK, but like I said, also excited. I'm at the age now after being married for over a year and in my thirties where everyone begins to ask about kids. Friends and family from the States ask us about our plans of heading back to the States. I think about my career and what is next for my business and myself on an hourly basis. All of these subjects are fun but also cause a little anxiety sometimes! Sometimes these topics make me want to eat a lot of cookies and a Coke float!

Fall Fashion Favs

The weather has certainly switched here in London. It was a beautiful weekend, but when you were out of the sunshine, you could feel the chill. I have been delaying the process of putting away my summery outfits and bringing out my wool sweater and boots, but I think it is time. Always around this time of year, probably because it was a tradition during back to school time, but I start itching for some new pieces to add to my wardrobe. This year I am loving some classic refreshes and some fun sparkly just because pieces. Here are a few of my favorite pieces that I so wouldn't mind adding to my closet.

Tomorrow is my 34th birthday {gasp! how did that HAPPEN!} and I find myself steering towards nice basic pieces this time of year. What is happening I don't know! Notice no pink above, no bow and flowery sweaters, don't you worry...that pretty crisp clean white shirt will get jazzed up with a big pink flower pin! A new white shirt, a classic black skirt, a tan lady bag, these are all items I would love to shine up my look heading into a new year!

It is a new year for me tomorrow, I deserve a little wardrobe refresh right:)!

xoxo Becca

Working Women: Lucy with Quill London

It has been really fun sharing so many amazing women over the last couple of years in my series of Working Women. Today I am excited to share another lovely lady in the biz with you, Lucy from Quill London. I discovered Lucy's company when I was looking for some stylish stationery in London. I had just moved here and I was on a search for some brands from the States that I loved like Rifle Paper Co. and Kate Spade and was pretty psyched when I came up on her chic site! I have gotten to know Lucy in the past year after attending a series of amazing calligraphy workshops she organizes and can say, this lady is one business women who is truly in love with what she is doing and the company she is creating. Enjoy the Q&A from Quill London and make sure to check out the site!

I took the plunge and launched in August 2012 after many years of cold feet!

I'm not saying it's easy, but it's possible.
