Happy Wednesday!

I wish I was floating away with a huge bundle of balloons (I adore this pic!). Unfortunately my week has been hectic and crazy and this week coming up is as well! It is exciting and crazy all at once. I am looking forward to next Thursday! One more week of work and then some cocktails to celebrate. Thank you ALL for helping me with my move to Florida. Urban Flip Flops will be writing more, once I get moved, packed and settled:)
Enjoy your day!

10 Things to do before May 9th

One of my good girlfriends was asking me the other day to make a list of 10 things I would love to do before leaving Washington. Oh my! I told her that recently I do not feel like there is enough time in the day. Between packing, working and trying to sleep, my time in this fabulous city is ticking away. I have SO loved calling Washington DC my home for the last almost 7 years. It was fun for me to put together a list of things I really want to do before I leave. It is pretty funny because of the items include food and beverage...what's new! I hope I can check off my list in the next two weeks!

1. Pictures of the city - everybody who knows me knows I LOVE taking pictures. I would love to be able to get some photos of me and girlfriends around the city. In front of the White House, the Capital, on the terrace of the Newseum, the Kennedy Center.

2. Glass of Champagne on the Lincoln Memorial - Remember the scene in Wedding Crashers where they end their night on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial drinking champagne....well I do. I would like to have a little bubbly there as well.

3. Margaritas at Lauriol Plaza - This DC restaurant gives me memories of being an intern in DC. Margaritas, Sangria and good Mexican food.

4. Run around the mall - I do this now but recently I've been so busy, I need to do this and take it in during the early morning.

5. Drinks out - W hotel, the view is just so wonderful at this hotel! Drinks at the Gibson, outdoors.

6. Cupcake tour of DC - Georgetown Cupcake, Baked and Wired, Hello Cupcake. I think I need to have a bite of each before I leave.

7. Happy hour wine tasting - Zola wine bar and kitchen has wine tastings through out the week. I have been saying I was going to take advantage and go. I should realllllly do this soon.

8. Shopping in Georgetown - no explanation needed.

9. Washington Monument - I have never been to the top of the monument.

10. Tour of the White House - please? Can somebody arrange this?

Ok, I had to add this picture. It was too funny.

I will miss DC. Thanks for being a good home for me.

Big Changes

I received this small journal as a gift a few weeks ago and fell in love with it. It has been sitting on my desk and I have found myself staring at it during the middle of the day. Most of you know that I have been considering the option of moving for quite some time. I was never sure when the right time was to go but these past few weeks I have really started to feel like it was totally the right time.
I gave my notice on Friday to my boss and will be leaving Washington DC on Friday, May 7th! It is a little scary but also so exciting. After being with same company for 7 years, the company I interned with in college, it was a crazy thing to give my notice and walk away. However, it felt so good and I feel like a weight has been lifted from
my shoulders in a way.

I found this picture of me from when I just started my job 3 years ago. I saw the building come together as a great site for events from a construction site. It has been a great experience,
but I am ready for what is next!
I'll be packing up my desk soon and heading to Florida with beau.
I am sure I will have lots to write on the way!

a day to remember

I saw this print and I felt like it was fitting for my day ahead. (I'll write more tomorrow.) The print is fitting. Today is the beginning of moving forward to living what I love.

Sunday Soirees - Client Birthday Party

It isn't often that you have a client call 2 weeks before and want to plan an over the top, no budget, birthday party. In my industry it is a dream! Friday night I put together an over the top surprise party for my client's wife. The theme was a one night only club "paraNORMAl". Her name was Norma so they played off of that and made it a strange, Twilight Zone, one night of craziness fun. The entrance had bubbles, dancers, absinthe shots, a long dark hallway where LED lights covered hands offered shots and party favors. There was a shot bar with magnetic shots, lounge seating, rolling sushi carts. Long story short the night was fun!

Me, NYX Entertainment and Capital Decor and Events created a night for the family to remember. I can't wait to get the photos back from Bryan at Freed Photography and I will share them with you. It was a fun event to plan!

My sister got me hooked on this blog, Mrs.Lilien. Mrs. Lilien is a graphic designer and her blog is to do for! I feel as if I jumped into Kate Spade land. Bright, cherry, fun, creative. Enjoy!

Lemon Tarts

This year I wasn't able to make it home to my parents ho
use for Easter. Today my bestie from 2nd grade Besse invited me out on her boat for an Easter Sunday trip around the Cherry Blossoms. My assignment....dessert. I browsed through many cookbooks and ended up on my old staple, Martha.
{Start out with Martha's lemon tart recipe but use the mini tartlet instructions.}

{I decided to make lemon tartlets. A pretty apron is a must in the kitchen. My apron flairs out like a little dress. You feel cute baking!}

{Start out making the Pate Brisse recipe. Aren't these the cutest measuring cups! I love this set from Nigella Lawson. Thanks Bran!}

{The mini tarts ready to go in the oven. Watch them closely, about 10 minutes and they are done.}

{While the tarts are cooling whip up homemade Lemon Curd. Yum Yum Yum. Eggs, Lemon Juice, Sugar, Butter, beat beat beat. Once the Lemon Curd begins to get thick, remove it from the heat and let it cool.}

{I could eat this whole bowl of lemon yumminess. Doesn't it look pretty in my Gramie's old bowl.}

{Pour the batter into the shells. Bake for 10 minutes and top with a raspberry. Here is my finished product. We enjoyed them on the boat. There was not a crumb left.}

{A beautiful view from the boat of pink cherry blossoms galore. A beautiful day.}

Happy Weekend

DC is filled with sunshine. I can not wait for the weekend! Easter, Cherry Blossoms, a day on the boat with a bestie and mimosas.
It is truly the beginning of Spring and I could not be happier.
{the beautiful pink trees around Washington}
{The egg cup candles. The bunny napkin fold. Oh Martha I love you}
