Honeymoon Ideas : Bali

Beau and I started to talk this week about where we want to go on our honeymoon. We are both believers that we want to take the trip immediately after our wedding and make it a trip to never forget! A few months ago we were extremely lucky to join his family in Bali for a ten day trip that we will always be an amazing memory for us. Being that it is such a chilly and foggy winter morning here in London, I thought today would be the perfect day to share some pictures from our trip and give some idea of spending your honeymoon in this amazing country! Here is a little bit of sunshine from Bali that I hope inspires your honeymoon planning.
Beau and I travel a lot to see our families and with our families, but a long dream trip spent together as newlyweds is a once in a lifetime experience! After our trip to Bali this Fall, I would certainly recommend it to any newlyweds.

First up, the cons about spending your honeymoon in Bali, the long flight! This was the longest flight I had ever taken. From London to Denpasar it is a 17 hour flight. From DC to Denpasar it is a 23 hour flight. After celebrating with family and friends and reliving every detail of your big day, a long flight spent watching movies and reading books may be perfect for you.

The pros, it is a beautiful country and an experience of so many things I have never enjoyed before. A trip to Bali would certainly be a once in a lifetime trip to make as a newly married couple. Bali is not the easiest spot to get to as a family vacation, so that makes it more of a special place to visit as newlyweds!

We stayed about 15 minutes from Seminyak, which is located on the South West side of the Island. If you are looking for a little R&R time as a newly married couple, Bali has it! The island is full of spas and yoga spots. We had a massage at our villa and at a spa throughout our trip there. The amazing thing is that the spa treatments are so affordable, you do not feel bad getting quite a few during your trip!
Spa days are fun, but so are exciting day trips and experiences like….riding an elephant! I felt like a little kid in a candy shop during our elephant ride, I was BEYOND excited!!! Can you imagine your wedding thank you cards with a picture of you and your fiancĂ©e on an elephant during your honeymoon:) We took a ride through the jungle, seeing banana trees, cocoa beans, orchids and so many more beautiful things along the way. The nature in Bali is breathtaking!
I would like to move in to the Potato Head Beach Club ! We spent the day at this beach club located in Seminyak. I would highly recommend if you stay in this area to indulge yourself in a day spent here. Get there before it opens and line up for a day bed, they are first come first serve, but well worth it! The service is wonderful and serves….delicious tropical drinks and food. We had lunch sitting by the pool and cocktails sitting in the pool. The beach club has three restaurants located within the building as well if you want to stay for dinner. It was such a hip and beautiful spot to relax in the sunshine near the beach!

The rice terraces are something out of a National Geographic magazine, amazing. We had a private driver bring us around Bali the same day we rode the elephants, I would highly recommend this! You can get a driver for an extremely reasonable cost who will bring you to the location that the locals go.
The hotels in Bali are amazing but don't overlook the private villas as well. We had a family, so this was a much better idea, but I would highly recommend it to anyone. The villa had a huge outdoor kitchen/living room, beautiful pool with lounge furniture, outdoor showers, scooters to zoom around the island, it was heaven. I wish I could snap my fingers right now and be lying on the couch by the pool above!
There are tons of small little dive bars and cafes. Seminyak is full of surfers and has quite a lot of cute spots for drinks or breakfast. Beau and I discovered this little spot, Sea Circus Cafe, right before a trip to the day spa and I wish we had found it sooner. The iced coffee was delicious and the cafe was full of fresh juices and delicious looking breakfasts.
One thing we were surprised about in the area of Bali we stayed was the beaches. Beau and I had envisioned endless white sandy beaches and Bali and instead were surprised by the very small cove beaches or the larger beaches with big waves {surfer spots!}. We LOVED the spots we went, but do not expect big white sandy quite beaches, unless you travel to the North side of the island.
Of course I could not help myself from taking pictures of these couples getting their wedding pictures taken on the beach! Hey, maybe you want to plan your honeymoon AND your wedding in Bali?
There are gorgeous temples to visit throughout the island that are full of so much history. When you want a break from the sun, take a trip to one of the many beautiful spots. The sunsets are unforgettable here!
The new W hotel opened in Seminyak last year and even if you do not stay there, stop by for drinks by the pool, it is a get away for sure!

Happy planning! Are you going on your honeymoon right after the wedding or waiting a year? I love hearing about people's different ideas. Are you thinking of some place BIG like Bali? I would love to hear, leave me a comment. Happy honeymoon planning!

xoxo - Becca

  1. We didn't honeymoon (bar spending 3 days in the village we got married in! Instead, we split out what we would have spent over 3 years. So that way, we knew we were guaranteed holidays and trips for years to come. We've still got 2 more booked for next year.
It's not for everyone, but I love the way we did it.

  3. Sometimes I think it can be mind over matter. Having something to eat before you travel will stop the sickly feeling, something plain not sweet. If it is children, try to keep them awake, often when they sleep in the car it is when they wake up that they are sick. Thanks for sharing the useful information.
