Birthday Resolutions

This New Year's I promised not to make big resolutions for 2014. With so much going on in life this past year, the thought of making resolutions for the year ahead made me itch. Well since last week was my birthday and I feel that I have a new year ahead of me, I have decided to share a few goals and resolutions of my own for my year ahead. Always mentioning my projects and over loaded to do lists, I thought I would share a bit more today about what I have on my agenda for my big 33rd year!

1. Find Happiness Every Day - Yes, I just got married and have an amazing husband, an adorable dog, wonderful family and friends! We live in London and have exciting things going on in life, however I often struggle with the balance of not being fully happy with my job and personal life and stress out about it all. It sounds funny to write that out, but yes, I need to realize I have an extra happy life and just because every box is not ticked at the moment, I'm getting there.

2. Self Employment - Yep ladies and gentleman, I just wrote that and am putting it out there to the world. In the next year I hope I can wake up at 34 {eeekk!} and know that I have to report to myself today and not head on the tube to the office. I do love working with a team of people, but being self employed, in charge of my life, is something I have been SO eager to do for a few years, I seriously could explode. I want to set up the life for me and Mr. Beau,  one that I can have a more flexible schedule. I know it is going to be such hard work, but I am ok with working hard, as long as its on my schedule. With a new business launching next month {see it here!} and my ultimate goal to be planning weddings on my own {contact me HERE!} I hope that next year at 34 I can finally call myself my own business. From now until then, wish me luck, as I know its going to be a busy year!

3. Attend Workshops - I think there is so much to learn from other professionals in your industry! Creating things with like minded people is a huge push to me, a huge boost and really gets me excited. Workshops like Flourish & Prospers Styling Workshop & Joy Thigpen's Styling Workshop are on the top of my list. I truly believe that you can learn SO much from others personal stories compared to a book.

4. De Stress - That world that I've been carrying around on my shoulders, shake it off. I have a gym routine that I frequent 4-5 times a week and I love it! However, I think it is time for me to really put some relaxation and stretching back into my life with yoga and running. I love the feeling of going outside in the fresh air for a run and going to a studio and stretching and breathing, I need to force myself to put this into my life again. Splurge on a massage, read a book, those little things are the things for the past year I have pushed away and instead been on my iPad on Pinterest or Instagram and that needs to stop.

5. Have More Confidence - I wouldn't say I do not have any confidence, I do, however when it comes to a personal professional confidence, I need to sell myself and be confident! I have over 12 years of experience in event planning and sometimes I am aware I sell myself short, I have just as much experience if not more then a lot of people and must stop comparing and just do it!

6. Be a Good Wife - A funny one to write but so true! With my juggling of my personal goals and projects all the time, poor Mr. Beau often has to hear me complain about everything, enough. Enough complaining and more doing will make me a better wife and friend every day.

7. Keep to a Schedule - Ok, this sounds kind of boring, haha, but it is true. I write my to do lists and have my mental schedules going on, but then I spend 30 minutes browsing around online and do not finish half of the list of items I had to do. With my blog, business, personal life, to keep me happy in all ways, I need to get a good schedule going on and schedule in my mights, our dates etc. I often over schedule us and in the next year I want to learn how to be smarter at our time and schedule!

8. Better Quality Posts - I have really had a hard time this past year feeling that Urban Flip Flops has had as much quality posts as I wish it could. A huge goal for me in the next year is to use my site to share my portfolio, my ideas and use it to really share things I see and posts I write down  I want to write but never get around to it. I do not want to write a post anymore that I am not proud to read myself.

9. Breaks with Mr. Beau - We have been married for over three months, yippee! and have travelled to Italy, the States and Holland. While these trips are ALWAYS amazing, it is little weekend get aways that can often be such a sweet thing as well. I truly want to plan more breaks with just us two, take advantage of living in Europe!

So that is it ! I know it is a lot of things to get done, however I look at what I was thinking of at 32 last year, and since then SO much has happened. I wish nothing but a sparkly and fulfilling year ahead, lots of good change to come! Wish me luck!

Happy Birthday to ME!

Today is my birthday, yippee! It is no secret that I am a huge birthday fan! Celebrating mid week ideally isn't the best, I will be honest. However, I woke up to mimosas in bed, breakfast made by my husband and at least a sunny day in London, so far not so bad. Looking at this picture of me as a little girl below makes me so happy. What was I wishing? Did I have any idea that at 33 my life would be what it was?
Was I wishing for a barbie or for happiness and happy days ahead?

Birthdays are full of so much celebration and I believe they should be! One day out of the year that you can celebrate the years behind you and the year ahead of you. What an amazing year I have had and I can't imagine what the year ahead brings for me. Tomorrow I am going to post my birthday resolutions {forget new years resolutions!} but for now, I am taking a little time today to think back on all of the wishes I made back then, and how lucky I have been to have been granted with so many wonderful things since then! Some days when I am in caught up in the daily grind, the emails, the timelines, the stress of lots of things, I forget about what an amazing life I do have. So today I wish myself a happy birthday! Happy birthday and cheers to it only getting better.

I Fancy Friday v. 35 : For the Guys

Today is my husband's birthday {still funny calling Beau my husband} ! HAPPY BIRTHDAY Mr. Beau!!!! In honor of the handsome wonderful man in my life, I am dedicating this Friday's post to all things that I fancy for him. The week behind us is full of busy days and lots of work at night. This weekend ahead is for relaxing and a little birthday celebrating time. Happy Weekend! Happy Friday!

1. Swingers Golf Club London - A golf bar is opening up in London! I don't golf, but this place sounds  super cool! Mr. Beau is going to LOVE this place.

2. Breakfast Club - You can't beat a classic delicious breakfast more then pancakes with bacon and syrup at the delicious Breakfast Club. What guy doesn't fancy that?

3. Bull Dog Sensitive Face Wash - Face Wash just for men, perfect. Mr. Beau loves to steal my eye cream so I think its time….he has his own guys line of grooming products;) The brand name is bull dog, that's cool.

4. Scarfes Bar in the Rosewood London - This place is swanky and classy and serves a mean Manhattan, Mr. Beau {and my papa's} favorite! The room is decorated in a beautiful masculine library decor, the perfect spot for a pre dinner birthday drink.

5. Headphones - I'm loving these stylish headphones with the stitched leather. On the gift list!

6. Art of the Brick Exhibit - There is a new exhibit on Brick Lane all about ….LEGO'S! Yes, amazing sculptures full of Lego's. I was a Lego lover when I was little, as imagine a lot of you were, boys and girls. Fun lunch date during the weekend.

7. Afternoon Tea at BRGR.CO - Last year I took Mr. Beau here for his birthday. Mini burgers and mini milkshakes. The place is small cozy, and it was delicious!

8. Udderlicious Bourbon Carrot Cake Ice Cream - This is our favorite ice cream place near our flat. This months flavor would fit my birthday boys favorite thing list…bourbon, yum, with carrot cake!

Happy Birthday Mr. Beau!!!!!!!! I can't wait to celebrate and fancy 101 more birthday with you!

Simple Soiree : Birthday Brunch in Bed

My birthday is less then a week away and if I can be honest, at this moment I fancy a morning in bed more then a late night out. Mr. Beau and I have been busy these past couple of weeks, getting home late, go go go. A morning with coffee, doughnuts, mimosas and magazines sounds like an indulgent celebration in its own. Maybe we will get dressed up and spoil ourselves with a fancy hotel bar cocktail, but truly, out all night, it is probably not going to happen this year…..and you know what, that is OK! Fun pjs and a birthday hat, that is what I am dreaming of, well, in bed on my birthday.

A Birthday brunch in bed soiree sounds great to me!!!

Birthday Week: Birthday Cakes

September for me brings A LOT of birthday celebrations. From my birthday {yippee! next week!}, my husbands birthday, nephews birthday, brother in law and a lot of my besties birthday, the month of September is one big PARTY time! I have wonderful memories of celebrating my birthday with a big cake. Every year my mom would ask us a month before, "What type of cake do you want for your birthday?", my answers often varied as the years went by; angel food with my mom's 7 minute frosting, to a Dairy Queen Ice Cream cake or some classic homemade cupcakes. I truly feel that if you don't have a good piece of cake on your birthday, it isn't a birthday celebration at all! Below I have rounded up a few of my favorite cakes that I think would leave anybody SO excited to celebrate the next big year of their life. Happy Birthday all of you September babies!

The End of Summer

Summer 2014, a summer for me like no other. I know that summertime isn't officially over yet, however the first of September always makes me think of back to school and end of summer. This summer I watched one of my best friends get married, I married my bestest friend Mr. Beau, we travelled to Italy for our honeymoon, we visited gardens in London, ate lots of ice cream and gelato, visited wineries, planned events with beautiful blooms. OH my the list just goes on and on and on.
I could post 500 of my favorite photos from the summer, but these are just a few that made me smile. From fancy dinners on our honeymoon, new restaurants in London, our first dance, to our wedding photographer's instagram pics. Summer 2014, thank you for being a roller coaster of emotions and also a heck of an amazing one. I will never forget you!
